[Shenzhen, China, April 11, 2023] Huawei released its 2022 Annual Report recently. The company reported steady operations throughout 2022, having generated USD92.37 billion in revenue and USD5.12 billion in net profits. Huawei continues to strengthen investment in R&D, with an annual expenditure of USD23.22 billion in 2022, representing 25.1% of the company’s annual revenue and bringing its total R&D expenditure over the past 10 years to more than USD 140.55 billion.
In 2022, revenue from Huawei’s carrier, enterprise, and consumer businesses was USD40.84 billion, USD19.15 billion, and USD30.84 billion, respectively.
Huawei says its Cloud business is focused on the software industry, targeted at building foundation models for different industries to help customers improve productivity, optimize experience, and accelerate scientific research and discovery. In 2022, Huawei Cloud achieved rapid growth around the world and continued to follow its strategy of providing “Everything as a Service” to build a cloud foundation for industries. Building on its 35+ years of experience in ICT, Huawei Cloud it significantly expanded its services and reach in 2022, and it was recognized in Gartner’s 2022 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Services (CIPS).
2022 marked a milestone in Huawei Cloud’s journey in growing with developers and partners. By December 2022, the Huawei Cloud ecosystem has attracted more than 4 million developers, increasing from 2.6 million. It also attracted more than 41,000 partners from around the world, and over 10,000 products have been released in the Huawei Cloud KooGallery marketplace.

Huawei Cloud invested US$100 million into upgrading the Huawei Cloud Developer Program. The program has attracted over 3,000 enterprises, produced more than 2,300 joint solutions, and certified more than 16,000 developers. In addition, the company runs the Huawei Developer Competition which has two main categories: cloud foundation and industry. The Huawei Developer Competition has already attracted more than 15,000 developers and 2,500 teams from over 40 countries and regions. The Huawei Developer Competition is Huawei’s top competition in the ICT field. Since its launch, it has attracted more than 15,000 developers and 2,500 teams from over 40 countries and regions around the world.
Huawei says its cloud business builds a new competency-based partner system for shared success, committed to fostering a digital ecosystem to accelerate the growth of partners and developers. In the Middle East, Huawei launched 2 Cloud Regions to respond to customer requirements more rapidly. Huawei Cloud provides intelligent twin services, such as city governance and smart healthcare, to large government and enterprise customers in the region. In 2022, Huawei Cloud grew alongside these enterprises and partners, with the cloud customer base in the Middle East more than doubling.
Huawei Cloud has been continuously innovating and promoting inclusive technology for competitiveness. It has been named in the Leaders quadrant in 10 product and solution dimensions, ranked No. 1 in 15 market segments, and included in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services (CIPS).
“In 2022, a challenging external environment and non-market factors continued to take a toll on Huawei’s operations”, said Eric Xu, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman, at the company’s annual report press conference. “In the midst of this storm, we kept racing ahead, doing everything in our power to maintain business continuity and serve our customers. We also went to great lengths to grow the harvest – generating a steady stream of revenue to sustain our survival and lay the groundwork for future development.”
Also present at the event was Sabrina Meng, Huawei’s CFO. She noted, “Despite substantial pressure in 2022, our overall business results were in line with forecast. At the end of 2022, our liability ratio was 58.9% and our net cash balance was USD25.35 billion. In addition, our balance of total assets reached one trillion yuan, largely composed of current assets such as cash, short-term investments, and operating assets. Our financial position remains solid, with strong resilience and flexibility. In 2022, our total R&D spend was USD23.22 billion, representing 25.1% of our total revenue – among the highest in Huawei’s history. In times of pressure, we press on – with confidence.”
